Cleaning Regulations

The company must prepare written cleaning regulations, which may be different for different staff groups, e.g. one for the cleaning staff and one for users of the room.

Among other things, the cleaning regulations may describe:

• What special work clothes to wear during the cleaning of the classified room: lab coat, gloves, and, in Class 2 areas, footwear.
• Where to store work clothes when not in use.
• What to do about dirty lab coats, mops or cloths that have been used in the room.
• Which part of the cleaning, i.e. which areas in the room the cleaning staff should take care of and what not to touch. Autoclave buckets, LAF benches, fume hoods, laboratory tables, for example, typically do not need to be cleaned by the cleaning staff.
• Which cleaning method to use, e.g. no sweeping, because it whirls up dust, which may contain micro-organisms.
• Which cleaning agents to use.
• Where the cleaning cart is located and in which rooms it may be used.
• What to do in case of accidents, i.e. who to call.
• How and when window cleaners and other cleaning staff may work in the room.
• What the main cleaning entails, who does it, and how often.
